Whether you want to revive a fallen horse or boost its stats in Tears of the Kingdom, you must make your way to the Horse God Fountain in Northeast Hyrule. But before you can receive the blessings of Malanya the Horse God, you'll need an item to complete his prerequisite.

Where to Find Malanya

Unlike the other Great Fairies of Hyrule, Malanya returns in Tears of the Kingdom in the same spot. You can find him inside his fairy fountain on Bloodleaf Lake in the North Akkala region. Simply follow the road behind the East Akkala Stable until you get to the lake, then keep moving north until you see his fountain.

Malanya will only come out of his fountain if you bring him an Endura Carrot. As he mentioned when you first talked to him, you can find Endura Carrots on Satori Mountain, directly southwest of Lookout Landing.

  • More specifically, the Endura Carrots are located on the peak of Satori Mountain, next to a cherry blossom tree.
  • You can also obtain an Endura Carrot as part of the Pony Points reward system. However, you must have accumulated at least 50 Pony Points for the first Endura Carrot reward.

Be sure to collect as many Endura Carrots as possible from the mountain; they are required to revive dead horses.

Once you've got an Endura Carrot, return to Malanya, and he'll emerge from his fountain to offer his services.

How to Revive Horses

Whatever the reason you lost your loyal steed is, don't worry; Malanya will be able to revive them back to how they were.

When speaking to him, choose the "Revive a horse." option. Malanya requires a Roasted Endura Carrot to revive a horse.

  • If you don't feel like making a fire camp, you can use a cooking pot south of Bloodleaf Lake—toss the Endura Carrot straight to the fire and pick it up before it burns.

Return to Malanya with the Roasted Endura Carrot, and pick the horse you'd like to revive. Your horse will then spawn right in front of the fountain.

Malanya can only revive horses that were registered at a stable. Tamed horses that are unregistered will die permanently.

How to Buff Horses

Though your first horse might not compare to some of the superior and giant horses you can catch in the game, it doesn't mean it has to sit in the stable forever now that you unlocked Malanya's services.

In Tears of the Kingdom, Malanya can now permanently enhance a horse's stats. However, special horses such as the Giant White Stallion or Ganondorf's Horse won't be able to be upgraded. This limitation doesn't apply to all unique horses; Zelda's Golden Horse and the Royal White Stallion can still be buffed using his services.

Upgrading a horse's abilities requires different meals for each stat. For instance, upgrading a horse's speed from four to five stars requires a Vegetable Omelet x3, Veggie Cream Soup x3, and Apple Pie x3.

The necessary resources for the upgrades will increase the higher the stat you're looking to improve. The table below lists what meals you need to cook for each tier:
